One of the oldest original houses in the Smoky River on its original location may soon be preserved as an historic site in time for centennial celebrations next year.

Upwards of 30 residents from McLennan were in attendance last week at the Kimiwan Lake Natrualists Society's annual volunteer appreciation barbecue.

A bus service based in Peace River will become the new transportation link for local people wishing to take the bus to Edmonton as Greyhound pulls its service in the north this October.

The Town of Falher will soon make another request to the Municipal District of Smoky to help fund and support a project to pave Second Street West also known as Cemetery Road.

Opinion

Having independent researchers come to Slave Lake to study the effects of the disaster will have long-lasting benefits for our community and others as well. When I found out town council voted in favour of accepting University of Lethbridge researchers to come to Slave Lake, I was glad it will happen.

As my wife and I prepare to says bon-voyage to our oldest son (who will be taking his Bachelor of Commerce in Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton), we can't help but feel a bit uneasy about his financial status heading into post-secondary studies.

Look around the Smoky River region and you will see many old buildings, very few of which are rated historic.

Spotlight: Driftpile pow wow draws people from afar

The traditional dancing, singing, drumming and food at the Driftpile First Nation Pow Wow keep people coming in greater numbers every year, according to Stan Isadore, a Driftpile councilor and the announcer for the traditional dancing.

Keith Wilson, a lawyer and Alberta policy chair for the Canadian Association of Energy Pipeline Landowner Associations, spoke out against the provinces laws regarding land rights, in High Prairie, Aug. 16.

The provincial government has given nearly 300 million dollars toward rebuilding the Slave Lake community following the May wildfires and June floods.

My husband and I had the privilege of participating in the Emperor’s Challenge half marathon, which was the weekend of August 6th, in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
