Residents in the Smoky River region are invited to come out and meet the area’s two newest physicians at a special meet-and-greet function this week.
The event, which will include complimentary snacks and refreshments, is taking place on the evening of Oct. 4 and will be held at the McLennan Golden Age Club from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“It’s basically set up as an informal evening to give residents the opportunity to meet our two new physicians,” says Myrna Lanctot, Smoky River Regional Physician Recruitment & Retention coordinator.
"We're encouraging everyone to stop by, introduce themselvers, and welcome both families to the Smoky River region.
Guests of honour at the evening meet-and-greet will include Dr. Fred Isiguzo and Dr. Amad Alshigagi as well as their spouses and children families.
Dr. Isiguzo is originally from Nigeria, while Dr. Alshigagi hails from Libya.
Dr. Isiguzo arrived in the region in early August and began practicing out of the Associate Medical Clinic in McLennan effective Aug. 27.
Dr. Alshigagi and his family, meanwhile, officially arrived in the area Sept. 10. He met with Lanctot last month to formally sign his new contract and accept his signing bonus as a new physician in the region.
He is presently practicing out of the Falher Medical Clinic with Dr. Simon Eriki and is now accepting appointments from residents.
The arrival of the two new doctors is exciting news for the region, which has been operating with a limited staff of physicians for close to two years.
It now brings the total number of active physicians practicing in the region to four full-time doctors.
A fifth physician, Dr. Shaun Butcher, is continuing to do on-call rotations at Sacred Heart Community Healthcare Centre in McLennan.
