Smoky River Ducks Unlimited has pulled the plug on its 2012 fundraising dinner and auction.
The popular annual fundraising event will be a no-go this year as a direct result of internal management changes by the organization's governing body – Ducks Unlimited Canada – which have thrown a significant wriggle into this year's planned event this month.
"As a result of some of the (management) changes, we just weren't able to coordinate efforts with them to hold the event this year," says Smoky River Ducks Unlimited chairperson Terry Dunne.
"The end result is that we're taking a year off and coming back stronger than ever in 2013."
This year marks the first time in the local organization's 25-year history that they've had to cancel the regional fundraising event.
"It's unfortunate, but we just don't have the time to coordinate this year's event up to our level of expectations," Dunne explains.
"We apologize to everyone and hope they will continue to support in the coming years."
The absence of this year's Ducks Unlimited dinner and auction will give the local committee time to recharge its batteries and focus their attention on next year's big fundraiser.
"We've already set next year's dinner and auction date for Oct. 19," says Dunne, adding the event will coincide with Ducks Unlimited Canada's 75th anniversary celebration.
"We should have a good variety of interesting and unique items available to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Ducks Unlimited in Canada.
