Damages were widespread throughout the Smoky River region last week as the result of an intense wind storm which brought record-breaking gusts of up to 126 km/hr. The strong winds snapped power poles like matchsticks and also flipped the trailer of a semi-truck (above photo) on Highway 49 south of Guy.



Blown away!

Record-breaking wind gusts in excess of 110 kilometres per hour on the morning of Jan. 15 left a trail of destruction in its path throughout northwestern Alberta, including the Smoky River region.


Smoky River region to host 2014 Atom 'C' Provincial Hockey Championship

The 2014 Investors Group Atom 'C' Provincial Hockey Championship is coming to the Smoky River region in mid-March.
