Lakeland Eagles’ forward James Tallman (number 66) fires a bullet beyond the reach of the Valleyview Jets goaltender during last Thursday’s North Peace Hockey League matchup in McLennan at H.W. Fish Arena in McLennan. Lakeland went on to lose the game 6-5.

The Lakeland Eagles mini two-game winning streak is over and done with. Lakeland, which jumped out to a favourable 2-0 start to the 2007-08 NPHL season, fell back to the .500-mark this past week following two disappointing losses. That included a 16-2 blowout Nov. 10 at the hands of the Fort St. John Flyers, which laid an old-fashioned butt-whoopin’ on the Eagles. The game saw Fort St. John jump out to a commanding 5-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes of play. They added six more goals in the middle frame in addition to four more in the third period to hand Lakeland its first loss of the 2007-08 campaign. Scoring for the Eagles was James Tallman and Lee Lamouche. And while the score wasn’t as lopsided Nov. 15 when Lakeland hosted the Valleyview Jets, the result was just as bad as the Eagles rendered three third period goals en route to a 6-5 loss. Valleyview, which was manhandled by the Eagles 10-4 at home on Nov. 8, exacted a smattering of sweet revenge in the game by capitalizing for three powerplay goals to earn the victory. The Jets took a 2-1 lead into the second period only to watch it slip away on goals from Joey Anderson and Travis Chalifoux of the Eagles. Valleyview rebounded nicely by regaining the lead at the 14:37 mark of the middle frame prior to pumping three more past Eagles’ goaltender Sanford Lamouche in the first 10 minutes of the third period for a commanding 6-3 edge in the scoring department. Lakeland added a pair of late goals in the final three minutes off the sticks of Andrew Lamouche and Junior Anderson, but it was too little too late as the Jets held on for the win. Also scoring for the Eagles in the first period was James Tallman. Lakeland hosted Grande Prairie this past Saturday and hits the road for its first meeting of the year with the Spirit River Rangers Nov. 24. The team’s next home game is Nov. 29 when they clash with the Grimshaw Huskies. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
