The North Peace Hockey League’s Lakeland Eagles ended a lengthy losing skid last Thursday with a much-needed 6-2 win at home over the Grimshaw Huskies.
Lakeland – losers of four straight heading into action Nov. 29 at H.W. Fish Arena – got back in the win column courtesy of a four-goal third period outburst to break a 2-2 tie.
It all started with a shorthanded effort from Jay Anderson at the 1:52 mark after converting on a pass from behind the net from Travis Cunningham.
Cunningham made it a 4-2 advantage for the Eagles just under six minutes later with Lee Lamouche padding that lead less than a minute after that.
Newcomer Lloyd Ah-Kim-Nachig, who notched his first goal as an Eagle at 9:35 of the period to give his club a commanding 6-2 lead. He also picked up an assist on Steven Cunningham’s second period goal.
Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was Al Anderson, who picked up a power-play goal in the first period after roofing the puck over Huskies’ goaltender Tyler Kjemhus.
The win came five nights after Lakeland was bounced 7-2 on the road by the Spirit River Rangers. Scoring for Lakeland in the loss was Jay Anderson and Joey Anderson.
The Eagles travelled to Fairview Dec. 1 to take on the Kings before hosting High Prairie last Tuesday in a key divisional battle. The club’s next home game is Dec. 8 against Fairview. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
