Curling has returned to Falher Curling Rink after a two-year absence during construction of Falher Regional Recreation Complex.
Youth curling hit the ice for the first time last Thursday with over 40 youth ages eight years to Grade 12 participating every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. with two one-hour sessions.
This year Falher Curling Club has introduced adult drop-in curling on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. for $10 per person per session.
“A few seniors suggested thast they would like to have drop-in curling so we decided to go for it,” says Danny Turcotte, club president.
Curling is growing at the Falher rink with record numbers on curling action Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.
“This year we have 20 adult teams, the most in several years,” says Turcotte,
“Over the last few seasons, we had about 12 teams.”
Curlers appear to be hungry to get back to rockin’ and rollin’ on the ice.
“I think the new building and new curling sheets has sparked a renewed interest in curling in Falher,” says Turcotte.
The youth program is also building the adult program.
“Since we started the youth curling program, we have seen more parents and adults who used to curl.”
“We also have some youth in curling in our adult league.”
