It hasn’t taken long for Lakeland Eagles newcomers to make their presence felt on the ice.
The Lakeland Eagles continued their winning ways last week, picking up their fourth win in as many games following a 10-4 home win over the Fairview Kings which saw six new faces introduced to the lineup.
Those new faces includedTodd Holt, Jerry Cunningham, Geoff Taylor, Dustin Kersey, Dallas Jackson and Mark Lindsay – all of whom combined for 14 points in the winning effort.
Lakeland opened the scoring at the 2:34 mark when Kersey cut in around Fairview’s defence and buried the puck five-hole on Kings’ starting goaltender Brett Dillman.
Fairview got back on even terms just under one minute later before the Eagles kicked their offence up a notch by scoring three straight goals for a 4-1 lead after the opening 20 minutes of play.
Scoring for Lakeland was Taylor, Travis Cunningham and Holt.
Lakeland carried that momentum into the middle frame where the club added another four spot for a commanding 8-1 lead after the second period.
J. Cunningham got things rolling for the Eagles at the 5:02 mark with Daniel Belcourt padding the lead just 42 second later. Kersey would add a short-handed effort at 10:03 while Travis Chalifoux also got in on the scoring with a power-play marker at 18:09.
Jay Anderson made it a 9-1 contest at 1:10 of the third period before Fairview converted with its first power-play effort of the night to cut the seemingly insurmountable lead to a deficit of seven goals.
The two teams would exchange goals from there with Lee Lamouch and T. Cunningham scoring in a game which saw the Eagles out-shoot the Kings by a 38-29 count.
Lakeland took on the Falher Pirates last Friday prior to returning home for a game Dec. 15 against the NPHL Campbell Cup champion Peace River Stampeders.
Upcoming games
The club’s next action comes Dec. 19 when it hits the road for a second straight meeting with the Stampeders.
Lakeland will then move on to another key divisional two-game set against High Prairie on Dec. 27 (in McLennan) followed by a rematch two nights later on the Regals home turf.
