Have a holly, jolly Christmas!

Kevin Laliberte
Editor, Smoky River Express
Well, it’s hard to believe that another year is virtually behind us as we prepare for the holiday season and the emergence of yet another promising New Year – 2008.
Last week represented somewhat of a milestone for us here at the Express as staff worked diligently behind the scenes to prepare this week’s holiday issue, just in time for Christmas.
It’s a change from previous years which saw us publish our final newspaper of the year the week before Christmas, followed by a one-week absence and our Year In Review the first week of January.
One of the most appealing aspects of this transition in 2007 means that we are able to include more sights and sounds of the season in this week’s holiday issue.
We hope you and your family enjoy reading through this issue as much as we’ve enjoyed preparing it.
Inside our Dec. 26th issue you’ll find everything from Christmas-related activities (such as school concerts and plays) as well as a front page wrap on the uncompromising value of the Smoky River Family & Community Support Services Christmas hamper program to this region.
I would personally like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of residents and business owners throughout the greater Smoky River region in supporting this very worthwhile cause by assisting the less fortunate at what can be an extremely stressful and difficult time of the year.
Each of you has once again proven that the greatest gift of all on Christmas morning isn’t about what’s under the tree that matters the most, it’s about what’s in our hearts.
Readers are reminded that this issue represents our final installment of the Express in 2007 and that we are not publishing on Jan. 2, 2008.
Our next edition of the newspaper – 2007, The Year In Review – hits newsstands and mailboxes throughout the region on Jan. 9 and will include a virtual smorgasbord of the many news event highlights which shaped our lives this year.
Office holiday hours
Our office in Falher will be closed Dec. 25 to 26 in addition to Jan. 1, 2008 to allow staff an opportunity to celebrate the holiday season with family and friends.
Office hours on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 are from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Advertising and editorial submission deadlines for the Jan. 9th edition of the Express are Jan. 2 by 4 p.m.
As we prepare to enter another new year, I encourage each of you as valued readers and caring citizens of your respective communities to continue to play positive roles in the growth and development of the region as a whole by getting involved and being progressive.
In closing, I would like to personally thank our readers, regular editorial contributors and businesses in the region and outlying areas for their patronage and support over the past year.
On behalf of management I wish to extend a big thank-you to the team of dedicated staff at the Express, including Advertising Manager Leona Jorgenson, Advertising Designer Brenda Stevens and Reporter Richard Froese for their hard work and dedication to this newspaper.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
