The Falher Pirates continue to struggle in their first year back in the North Peace Hockey League with two more losses last week.
“We’re don’t seem to play that bad, but we just can score and win,” says head coach Bob Maisonneuve.
The Pirates lost 12-1 to the regional rival Lakeland Eagles of McLennan on Dec. 14 at Falher Regional Recreation Complex.
Jason Bouchard scored on the power play midway through the second period to narrow the deficit to 5-1.
“We were simply outmatched against Lakeland,” says coach Maisonneuve.
“We just weren’t in the game.”
“They have a few players who can put the puck in the net and we couldn’t handle them,” says Maisonneuve.
Falher netminder Les Montpellier was busy as the Eagles out-shot the Pirates 49-20.
One night later, the Pirates fell 9-1 to Fort St. John Flyers in the British Columbia community.
Jason Boucher scored the lone goal for the Pirates in the middle of the third period after trailing 8-0.
Montpellier was busy again in the Falher net as the Flyers out-shot the Pirates 46-17.
“We didn’t play that bad,” says coach Maisonneuve.
“They’re a strong team and a few players have junior hockey experience and it shows.”
Upcoming, the Pirates host Manning Comets on Dec. 29 at Falher Regional Recreation Complex at 8:30 p.m.
Opening the new year, the Pirates visit Lakeland Eagles in McLennan on Jan. 3 and host High Prairie Regals on Jan. 5 and Valleyview Jets on Jan. 18.
