$13,000 cold hard cash robbed from residence; stolen truck torched

A Smoky River resident may be short a little cash these days after $13,000 Canadian cash was stolen from s local home between Dec. 12 and Dec. 22. “Individuals, retailers, and banks in the area are asked to report to police if they come in contact with large sums of old-style $100 bills currency,” McLennan RCMP Constable Lindsay Powers states in a press release of Jan. 25. Police continue to investigate the theft. Truck stolen and burned A blue 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck stolen from a farm north of Donnelly Corner between Christmas and New Year’s was later discovered heavily burned resting in a ditch by Valleyview RCMP. “Police are requesting assistance in apprehending the person or persons responsible for the theft or arson of this truck,” says McLennan RCMP Constable Powers. Illegal dumping in commercial dumpsters RCMP have received several reports of residents dumping private residential garbage into commercially leased dumpsters in recent weeks. “This adds a financial strain on business owners and is against provincial legislation,” says Constable Powers. “Persons who dispose of their garbage in commercial dumpsters are subject to fines of $115.” “Lets all help keep our communities clean, and dispose of your garbage in the approved manner.” “All municipalities in our region (except the Municipal District of Smoky River) have designated pick-up days for household garbage,” says Constable Powers. “Should you need information on when those pick-up days are scheduled, please contact your local municipal office.” “If anyone has garbage in excess of the allowed amount, municipal offices can also advise them on the hours of operation of the regional landfill.” Anyone with information on any of these incidents or other suspicious or criminal activity is requested to urgently phone McLennan RCMP at 324-3086 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
