The Twilight Figure Skating Club wrapped up the 2007-08 season with a bang Feb. 29 as members celebrating the successes of another season during their year-end carnival.
A supportive crowd of more than 150 people gathered at Guy-Donnelly Sportex for the colourful event, which featured the talent of local figure skaters in sync to the “Soundtrack Spectacular” theme.
“We were very pleased with the turnout and the performance of our skaters on the ice,” says Twilight Figure Skating Club president Jacquie Bouchard.
“They did a fantastic job both at the carnival and throughout the year. As a board, we’re really proud of their accomplishments.”
The figure skating carnival kicked off with a special welcome of the club’s newest membership base – toddler skate – which consists of skaters ranging between two and three years of age.
“It’s a fun introductory program which we launched this year to get the younger generation of kids involved in the club,” says Bouchard.
The opening toddler skate program number featured Denis Bouchard, Makenna Maisonneuve, Mia Maisonneuve, Magalie Gelinas and Tylyer Ethier.
That was followed by a solo performance from senior starskate member Chelsea Doran (to the Pink Panther theme song) and a combined skating foursome featuring junior starskate members Celina Bouchard, Janelle Laverdière and Mackenzie Desaulniers (to High School Musical).
Additional performances during the course of the evening included:
. Josée Bouchard (to Hairspray);
. Canskate group two members including Marek Maisonneuve, Kaitlyn Lambert, Josée and Kyle Guerette, Rayden Steib, Justine Dubrule, Cloe Maisonneuve and Janelle Laverdière to Shrek;
. Mackenzie Desaulniers to Lilo & Stitch;
. Canskate group one (Marie-Soleil Gelinas, Sabrina Lambert, Chloe Jackson, Coryn Delauriers and Trista Boissonneault) to Alvin & the Chipmunks;
. Tiana Aubin to Fairies;
Celina Bouchard and Mackenzie Desaulniers to Ratatouille;
. Tiana Aubin and Chelsea Doran to Mission Impossible;
. Janelle Laverdière to Swan Lake;
. Josée Bouchard and her mother, Jacquie, to Fiesta Tango;
. Celina Bouchard to The Seven Dwarfs;
. Chelsea Doran, Josée Bouchard and Tiana Aubin to Step Up.
Also a part of the action was guest skater Michelle Laboucan of the High Prairie Figure Skating Club performing You & Me.
Bouchard describes this season as an “amazing year,” with starskate members doing extremely well in both competition and test days.
Another positive for the club was that it more than doubled its number of active canskate members from nine last year to 20.
She wishes to extend a big thank-you to all parents, board members and skaters on another successful season and invites everyone to the club’s March 17th windup at Guy-Donnelly Sportex.
“We’ll be having a family skate (from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.) followed by a supper, our awards ceremony and club annual general meeting,” she says.
