McLennan’s proposed new curling rink received a positive injection of cash last month following a successful Texas Hold ‘Em fundraiser.
“We managed to raise $760 in proceeds to put towards the curling rink project,” says McLennan Mayor Don Regier, who also represents the municipality on the local recreation board.
“It’s definitely a good start.”
The invitational event took place at the Elks Hall on the afternoon of Feb. 16 and included a field of roughly 20 participants, including Dunvegan-Central Peace MLA Hector Goudreau and his wife, Angie.
The event was sponsored by the McLennan Local Recreation Board in addition to Hector Goudreau, Barry and Collette Whelen, Regier and the Jackson family.
Additional support was achieved through business sponsorship from Hernani Goldsmith (Grande Prairie), Century 21 (High Prairie), Lyn-Mar Travel (High Prairie), Thomas Holmes RV Centre (Peace River) and Ross Ag. Ltd (Falher).
Community business sponsors included the McLennan Hotel, Top Notch Contracting, McLennan Home Hardware, Hicks Honey and the McLennan Bottle Deport.
All proceeds from the event go directly to the Curling Society for the new Rink.
A special thank-you goes out to all business sponsors and participants as well as Tammy Chavis for volunteering to run the bar.
Cashspiel fundraiser April 12th weekend
The fundraiser will be followed next month by a major cashspiel at H.W. Fish Arena, which is hosted by the McLennan Curling Club.
