Georges P. Vanier girls’ curling team has captured the bronze medal at provincials. The team consisting of lead Janisa Aubin, second Monique MacFarlane, third Krystin Aubin, and skip Chelsea Doucet, traveled to Edmonton’s Saville Centre March 6 to 8 where they snatched three of a possible four wins at the championship event en route to a bronze medal result. “The girls played extremely well throughout the provincial championship,” says coach Angela Creighton, adding that the net result could have been much different had it not been for a tough 4-3 loss to Andrew School in their second game. The girls got off to good start in the provincial championship after handily disposing of Jasper Place School (Edmonton) in the opening draw by a lopsided score of 13-5. The team then moved on to play Andrew School from Westlock where they dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to their opponents with the winning point coming in the final end of play. The girls did, however, rebound in their third game against Foothills Composite School from Okotoks where they earned a 6-5 win. That gave them a berth in the bronze medal game where the girls to impress, picking up a 6-2 victory. All the students on representing the team were from G.P. Vanier School with the exception of skip Chelsea Doucet who hails from Ecole Heritage School in Falher.
