Local volunteers were recently admired for all the hard work and time they donate to non-profit groups.
Two events were held by FCSS on May 1 and 2 to give back to volunteers that spend many hours helping local groups.
The events were held in McLennan and Jean Cote and drew a large crowd each night.
"We had 145 people show up in Jean Cote for the dance and magician," says community development coordinator Jean Moore. "We also had a very successful turnout in McLennan where just over 100 people showed for the dinner and jam session."
On May 1, the event was held in Jean Cote at the Community Hall where a magician named Jon Charles gave a performance to a large crowd.
Penny Fox, FCSS director, explains that the events are to show volunteers that all their time donated is deeply admired by the community.
"We chose a magician for a simple reason," says Fox. "It is a way to show the volunteers we appreciate how magical they truly are."
A dance followed with music provided by local musicians. Six musicians held the jam session, giving the volunteers time to dance and relax.
"We do a volunteer appreciation night every year," says Fox. "It is a regional program so every year we move the event to a different town in the region."
McLennan Legion was the home to the second event on May 2.
The evening showcased a supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. cooked and catered by FCSS staff.
"We haven't held a supper for a while," says Fox. "This year we thought it would be nice for the volunteers to be able to enjoy the evening instead of working."
Seven musicians played to the crowd afterwards and the evening ended with a dance.
"Everybody said that the evenings were great fun," says Moore. "I was totally impressed with the turnout and the support given to our wonderful volunteers."
Next up for FCss is the Poverty Luncheons that will be held at the Falher Chamber office on May 15 and at the Golden Age Clud in McLennan on May 16.
