Not big enough for a full column ...
Commentary by Jeff Burgar
Looking through my notebook, I see a few ideas I wanted to write about.
Looking at them now, I’m thinking the ideas are still worth mentioning. But maybe, they aren’t worth a full column.
Here’s the gems:
The fire at Widewater a few weeks ago reminded me why I don’t like going to British Columbia in the summer.
The reason? Fire bans.
It just isn’t the same sitting around a nice fire pit, in the middle of a nice campground, and not allowed to start a fire.
Just no fun at all.
But, too many times, British Columbia shuts down campfires during the summer.
And, it appears, the practice is spreading to southern Alberta.
That’s the price of global warming.
Let’s hope this doesn’t spread to this part of the land.

I used to enjoy television news at 10:00 and 11:00 at night.
CBC I catch early and CTV later.
Watching both programs, one soon wonders where the heck these people get their news.
Obviously, it’s the same guy writing both programs.
It’s the same interviews, the same people, the same questions and even the same video shots.
How many times are we going to watch Maxine Bernier’s girlfriend and her cleavage?
Announcers are the only difference. Sheesh.
Must be time to switch to Global!

So here’s a big announcement how land planning in Alberta will be best served.
Our provincial government says we are going to have six “zones’’ because Alberta is a diverse province with particular needs and interests in each area.
Hmmmm. So how come we had to join-up all nine of our health regions into one great big super region?
It’s just babble friends, just babble.

Remember how those friendly bankers used to tell you why they couldn’t give you a loan?
Or why they needed special consideration from the federal government?
Or special rules to keep foreign competition out?
Because, they said, they were the guardians of little old ladies, little old men, precious savings accounts, and all the money your neighbour or your grandmother needed to see them their retirement years.
Oh the horror of it all if they loaned you grannie’s money, and you didnt’t pay it back.
Now we find out every bank except the TD is dropping hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars in bad loans, bad paper and in general, plain old giant risk taking.
It was all just babble friends, just babble.
There. I’m happy to get these off my mind!
