The ridiculous to the sublime
Commentary by Chris Clegg
They like to call themselves psychics.
Some call them by less flattering names such as publicity seekers or just plain nut-jobs.
Whatever your belief, we tend to be fascinated with the notion some people have special powers and can predict the future. Who knows? Perhaps some can. The few who can, however, are discredited by the overwhelming many who lend no credibility to the cause.
Here are several predictions made by modern day psychics I trust you will find interesting:
David Bubar predicted social drinking in America would come to an end in 1975-80. He also predicted love, as we know it, would come to an end during the same time. Closer to 2000, he predicted scientists would invent a device where people could become invisible at will.
Criswell (no last name given) predicted the devil would rule in the earth from 1975-78. A severe drought would affect the earth forcing people to move to the polar ice caps in search of water. A lake in Switzerland would boil when a volcano erupted underground and mind control would be used commonly on criminals.
He also predicted by around 1980 Lake Michigan would be drained for farmland. At the same time, do-it-yourself facelifts would be on the market and mass cannibalism would break out in Pennsylvania.
In 1981, he predicted Montana would become strictly a penal state and in 1983 all women in St. Louis would mysteriously lose their hair.
Not to be outdone, there was Joseph DeLouise. He predicted China and Japan would merge around 1980.
Jeane Dixon predicted a female president in America before 1990. At the same time, a comet would collide with the earth causing tidal waves and earthquakes. She also predicted a nuclear war with China and America in 2000 with millions perishing and America the winner.
Olof Jonsson predicted major world cities would ban private cars by 1981-90. Shortly after, all cars would be banned. By 2000, he predicted humans would get food energy directly from the sun rather than eating plants and animals.
John Reeves predicted a cure for all cancer in 1981-90. He also predicted racism would not exist because of so much inter-racial marriage.
Edgar Cayce predicted Europe would disappear after 1964. He also predicted the poles would shift starting in 1998 and New York City would be destroyed the same year.
Olaf Helmer predicted by 2000 that personality-changing drugs would be as common as liquor, man will have landed on Mars and weather would be controlled. He also predicted the creation of artificial life, immunization against all germ-caused diseases, fully-automated highway travel, drugs will be created to raise intelligence levels and the moon would be mined for its minerals.
Not to be outdone, Desmond King-Hele predicted by 2000 the appearance of slave robots and that knowledge could be “injected” into the human brain. He also said a huge double pipe would run from England to the Sahara desert to transport hot and cold air as needed.
As you can see, some of these people were pretty far off the mark. It is entertaining, however, to read what they predicted.
And, of interest, many of their other predictions became true.
We leave the last word for Emmet John Hughes. Before 2024, he predicts Quebec will leave Canada and that Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will leave Canada and join America.
What do you think about that?
