Another bout of vandalism has hit the town of Falher. The newest victim is Claudette’s Sewing located just off Main Street. The establishment is owned and operated by a very frustrated Claudette Sylvain, who is up in arms over her sign being busted by vandals. “I heard a big bang outside my window,” says Sylvain. “I chose not to look outside because I thought it was a car back firing.” The incident occurred on July 24 at about 1 a.m. when a rock was thrown through the sign, initially thought to be a gun shot. Sylvain explains that the sign will cost about $250 for her to replace. She says that she wishes that the vandals would stand up and take responsibility for their actions. “Police don’t know who did it and cannot do anything about the vandalism,” says Sylvain. “I want whoever did it to look in the mirror and ask what that’s (the vandalism) going to bring to their lives.” Sylvain explains that this is not the first time her sign has been vandalized and she is frustrated by the vandals’ carelessness. “Stop vandalizing other people’s property,” Sylvain said angrily. “We are just trying to make a decent living and something like this can take the wind out of a business.” Sylvain says that the biggest concern is that the vandals are likely young adults or late teens who are slowly setting their path as criminals. “They’re starting their lives on a bad foot, what type of adults will these people become?” asks Sylvain with frustration. “They’ve started small but next time it will probably be a bigger crime, they have to make themselves accountable now.” Sylvain says that she wishes whoever committed the crime would come forward and offer to replace the sign. She explains that the person can correct their actions by just paying for the damages they have done. There has been a number of cases of vandalism in the town over the last few months. Just last month the gazebo located in the I.G.A. parking lot had its guard rails destroyed. The Express sign was also torn down by individuals on Honey Festival weekend. “This is not the first time that vandalism has occurred in town,” says Sylvain. “Unless something is done, it probably won’t be the last time either.”
