Adrien Larose of Falher could very well be categorized as the luckiest bingo player in the Smoky River region. Larose proved that the third time’s definitely a charm July 30 after winning at Knights of Columbus Satellite Bingo (held at the Chevaliers Centre in Falher) yet again. His cash prize of $10,356 falls on the heels of two previous wins, the first of which came on on Nov. 4 of 1999 when he won $11,083. But he wasn’t done there. Larose, who’s been playing bingo for the past 18 years, also scooped up an additional cash prize of $8,424 on Sept. 7 of 2007. Do the math and it adds up to a total of $29,863 – not bad when you consider that he’s anything but a regular at Satellite Bingo. “I just play whenever the mood hits,” says Larose, who tries to get out and play twice a week. “I’m just not the type of person to go out and play every night.” Larose was presented with his prize winning cheque on Aug. 7 by satellite bingo coordinator Pauline Cloutier, and bingo caller Doris Snider – the same caller when he won last September. “She (Snider) must be my good luck charm,” Larose chuckles. The veteran satellite bingo player, meanwhile, says he plans to continue playing the game in the hope of winning an unprecedented fourth time. “I figure there’s still some more money out there to be won,” he adds. When asked what he intends to do with his recent winnings Larose responded by saying that he’ll likely put it towards a trip later this year. “Who knows, maybe I’ll take a trip this winter somewhere warm to escape the cold.”
