A 43-year-old Sherwood Park man is facing five charges, including assaulting a police officer, following an incident at the McLennan Hotel on the morning of July 30.
Christopher John Fraser was formally charged by McLennan RCMP with assaulting a peace officer, assault causing bodily harm, assault, dangerous driving, mischief under $5,000 and operating a vehicle without consent of the owner.
The charges stem from a complaint of an assault at the local hotel at approximately 6:30 a.m. involving Fraser and one of his employees, both of whom were consuming liquor at the time when an altercation broke out.
Sgt. Ged Dentinger says the employee managed to flee from the altercation and hide in his hotel room before the suspect began kicking in hotel room doors.
"A total of 16 doors were damaged in the process," Sgt. Dentinger explains, adding that a second employee who attempted to calm the suspect was also assaulted by the suspect.
According to RCMP, the altercation continued outside where the suspect eventually found himself locked out of the hotel.
That's when Fraser used a vehicle to break through the front doors of the hotel.
Upon police arrival, the vehicle was found parked at the front doors of the hotel.
The suspect was later located in the hotel by RCMP but would not surrender to police.
A physical confrontation ensued with the RCMP member eventually taking the suspect into custody.
Fraser was remanded in custody pending his first court appearance on Aug. 7, 2008 in Falher Provincial Court.
