Suzanne Maisonneuve is celebrating 30 years of employment with Canada Post.
The jovial postmaster has been working full-time in Donnelly for the last 13 years, since taking over from Mrs. Pauline Doyle.
She explains that working for Canada Post has allowed a flexible schedule throughout her 30 year career.
“I started working in July 1978 when I had a young family,” says Maisonneuve. “It was a great job to have while raising kids, because it allowed me to go to all the school functions and to be available for my children. My children were often in the office after school waiting for me to get off work.”
The mother of four, now grandmother, and wife of Denis, was officially employed with Canada Post on Aug. 12, 1978.
“It has always been a very interesting job,” she says. “There are always changes happening. When I first started we were using a cash box, then we switched to cash registers, now we are getting a computer in October.”
Maisonneuve’s goal is to become the longest serving Canada Post employee in Donnelly Post Office history.
She will only have to work one more year to outlast the previous record of 31 years, set by Jean-Baptiste Béland who worked for Canada Post from 1927 – 1958.
“I hope I can beat his record,” says Maisonneuve. “Donnelly is a wonderful town and I am very proud to say that I’ve lived and worked in or around the community all of my life.”
Maisonneuve began her adult career at G.P. Vanier school as a teacher assistant, librarian and school secretary.
