Management and staff at Grandma’s Den know all too well what it’s like to spend months and months under a leaky roof.
But that’s all about to change thanks in large part to the arrival of a provincial Community Initiatives Program grant of $40,470, which is allocated toward the cost of a much needed and timely roof replacement project at the local business located on Main Street in Falher.
“We’re extremely grateful to our MLA (Hector Goudreau) and the province for recognizing our need for these funds,” says Paulette Gosselin, director of Grandma’s Den. “It’s very much appreciated from our end.”
The grant cheque was formally presented to Gosselin and Gerry Hachey, board chair for Grandma’s Den, on the morning of Aug. 28 at Goudreau’s constituency office in Falher.
Gosselin says the provincial funds are being combined with funding set aside by Grandma’s Den to complete the roof replacement project, which carries a price tag of $82,000.
“The contract was awarded to Deboon Roofing & Concrete Ltd. out of Peace River,” says Gosselin, adding that work is to be completed by sometime this fall.
Grandma’s Den moved into the formerly vacant building in December of 2006 after purchasing it.
