A McLennan businesswoman is rapidly moving forward with plans to develop six commercial lots on the east side of town along Highway 2.
Danielle Drouin of Drouin Holding Ltd., says initial landscaping work on the commercial development project is officially underway.
"The transfer of land title (from the municipality) is complete and excavation work has started," says Drouin, adding that she's shooting for a target date of next spring for construction of the new business complex.
The project, which involved the sale of lots nine to 14 in Block 33 by the Town of McLennan to Douin for a sum of $9,000, is being developed as a multi-purpose two-storey business complete with a three-bay car wash, gas station and coin-operated laundromat.
Drouin says one of the most appealing aspects of the business plan is the general location, which provides direct access to services for local residents and highway traffic.
"Having the business situated directly along the highway was definitely an attractive feature and benefit."
Drouin, who presently owns and operateds Kimiwan Konfectionary next to Ceasars Steak & Pizza says building a new business in town was a "spur of the moment" decision.
Part of that decision, she adds, was based on a desire to offer additional products and services to residents withing the community and visitors passing through town.
"We're at the point right now where we've almost outgrown our present location," she says in reference to the status of Kimiwan Konfectionary.
That's not to suggest however, that the business will be moving to the east end of town following the completion of the new business complex.
"We'll continue to operate the confectionary," Drouin explains, adding that a few ideas are being tossed around for consideration in terms of possible changes.
"Nothing's written in stone just yet. We're merely exploring all our options," adds Drouin, who is open to any and all suggestions from withing the community in terms of what they'd like to see at the local business.
Formal construction of the new business is expected to begin next spring. The targeted completion date and opening is sometime in 2010.
