A former Falher resident is showcasing her artistic talent on Oct. 4 at the Club Alouette. Chantal Nicolet, now of Calgary, is holding an art show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to show her new line of paintings “The Seasons.” “As I walk along, I see beautiful things all around me every day,” says Nicolet. “Some of them are simply there, and some of them I have imagined.” Nicolet is a self-taught artist who has recently discovered her true passion for art. She says that she has wanted to hold a show in Falher for a long time, and Saturday her dream will come true. “I’m not sure how the colours do what I want them to do, but they do, and it works,” she explains. “I surprise myself every time (I paint).” She says that knowing someone else can enjoy a painting as much as she does brings her great satisfaction. Nicolet began painting about two years ago professionally. Prior to that she painted out of personal interest. She teaches art to junior high school students at West Island College in Calgary and also paints from her home studio in the city, showcasing many of the highlights of the community and its surroundings. Previous shows include; Colours For Change, held at Garrison Woods in Calgary on May 10. She managed to raise $3,000 for the Mother Theresa Orphanage in Mozambique – an organization that she holds very close to her heart and has donated a lot of time and effort to in the past. Unseen Art was another show that Nicolet was involved with. It was held in Inglewood in Calgary from Aug. 20 to Sept. 5. Showcased was a selection of new artists in Calgary featured at Art Point Gallery. Nicolet will also be featured at the Art Market where artisans from across Canada are showcased at the Calgary Telus Convention Centre from Nov. 20 to Nov. 23. “My only wish is that you appreciate it (the art) for your own reasons,” she says. “The paintings are what you want them to be, may you be drawn to one or the other because of your personal experiences and preferences.
