ATCO Energy Theatre and its Super Power show delighted the students at Routhier School with their presentation on Oct. 10. The visit was part of a new ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric safety education program that is visiting 27 communities and educating more than 10,000 students across northern Alberta this month. Routhier principal Richard Fournier says the presentation was geared to children from grades three to six. He explains that the play went over very well at the school. “It was a really great musical presentation of Electrical and Gas safety,” says Fournier. “They used rap music and acted as comic book characters to get their message across.” ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric launched ATCO Energy Theatre last year to act as an educational program to teach children to be safe around electricity and natural gas, as well as the science behind these two forms of energy. The program was designed to reinforce information presented in safety programs already offered to schools by ATCO, as well as science information related to the Alberta School curriculum. “The group presented the play as comic book heroes,” says Fournier. “It was entertaining, comical and enjoyable for the students. The villains in the play were carbon monoxide, electricity, and natural gas. ATCO Energy Theatre is planning two tours per year, one in the fall and one in the spring to visit ATCO’s service communities. The program was originally introduced last year and since then has entertained about 20,000 school children around the province. The play is 40 minutes in length.
