Junior volleyball teams from the Smoky River region picked up the lion’s share of notable accolades in Valleyview earlier this month, finishing with three first place finishes and a second.
Leading the way on the boys’ side was Ecole Heritage’s junior ‘A’ team, which picked up yet another tournament title of the season after laying claim to the number one spot at the two-day tournament Oct. 3 to 4.
“We have an extremely talented group of players,” says head coach Dominic Jean. “They’re very dedicated, have good team chemistry and are eager to learn.”
The recent win represents the third of the year for the Ecole Heritage boys’ squad so far this season. They also finished as top dogs in their respective division at a home tournament in Falher earlier this year before achieving a similar result in Fairview.
Equally impressive on the court was the school’s junior ‘B’ girls’ team (coached by Rachelle Bérube) which dominated play in their run to a tournament title.
The only team from Heritage not to come home with first place honours was the junior ‘A’ girls squad (led by head coach Gabrielle Bergeron) which, despite a strong effort, had to settle for second place overall at the tournament after bowing out to G.P. Vanier in the final.
