The Donnelly Recreation Society have an annual general meeting planned for Nov. 24. The meeting will be held at the Village of Donnelly office on Main Street at 7 p.m. Current board members include president Cindy Maisonneuve, vice-president Denise St. Laurent, secretary Chantal Gelinas and treasurer Sara Yaremko. The board also includes one continual member, director Rita Therriault. “We will be voting in any new members and re-voting on board members,” says president Cindy Maisonneuve. “We will also be discussing the goals for the upcoming year, 2009.” Maisonneuve explains the recreation society would like to find new events to bring into the community. Currently, the society holds an annual corn roast event held every year in Sept. “We would really like to hold a second yearly event,” she says. “We need more members though for funding so we can do more events in Donnelly. If we had more members we could deligate smaller committees from the board to work on specific issues.” An upcoming issue the recreation society has been tossing around is the idea for a new playground in Donnelly. “Our goal is to try to get grants and meet those grants with raised money to put a playground up in the east side of the village,” says Maisonneuve. “We want to replace old equipment which needs to be modernized. The existing playgrounds in Donnelly are all over 30 years old.” The future playground will be built in the location of the current village playground. The society has chosen Peak Playground Sales from Edmonton for the contract. Maisonneuve explains the owner of the company, Trevor Zahara, is originally from the Culp area. Donnelly Recreation Society hopes to have the playground complete within the next year. Maisonneuve urges new members to join the society and help to make Donnelly an even better place to live. Their mission is to provide safe recreational and cultural opportunities to enhance the well being of the community.
