Falher curling club received a donation from Monsanto Canada in the form of $2,000.
The club was presented with a cheque from Monsanto Canada territory manager Rob Milligen on March 21.
“Monsanto started supporting curling in Western Canada,” says Milligen. “Imagine a Better House is a program that supports rural curling rinks with construction projects.”
Monsanto launched its Imagine A Better House community curling club program in November 2008. The idea behind the program is to assist small-town curling clubs in Western Canada with local improvement projects.
“It is incredibly difficult to go through all the applications and select an overall winner,” says Monsanto Canada public affairs director Trish Jordan. “All the entries we received had compelling stories.”
In the past two years, $160,000 in cash awards has assisted 60 different rural community clubs across the prairies.
This year, the top prize was awarded to Holland Curling Club in Manitoba. The grand prize was $10,000.
Runners up were awarded with $5,000.
Third place winners were given $2,000 for their efforts. Falher Curling Club president Denis Simard says the club was very pleased to hear they would be receiving the funds.
They also express their gratitude to the writers of the award winning application, Dave Pedden and Pauline Johnson.
