Falher Recreation Complex Fundraising Committee has announced the second round prize draw winners.
The committee is hosting a lottery to raise money for the Falher Regional Recreation Complex. The second round winners were drawn at the SARDA Agricultural Trade Show on the weekend of March 19 — 21.
The winners included; digital camera winner James Holler, ice n easy ice machine winners George and Paulette Hachey, Wii console and controls Doug Chute, and GPS navigation system winner Marcel Viens.
Committee director Lorraine Desaulniers says there is a mad rush being made by the committee to sell the remainder of the tickets before the grand prize is drawn in April.
“Of the 1,500 tickets printed, there were 536 sold, just a tad over one-third of the tickets,” says Desaulniers. “Of these 536 sold tickets, 415 were purchased by residents of the MD of Smoky River and 121 were purchased by people residing outside the MD. We intend to get people on the phones and canvassing door-to-door to get the last two-thirds of the tickets sold by April 25.”
The committee (also known as SCORE) has raised a total of $490,000. All the money given to the Town of Falher, goes directly to the costs accrued in building, maintaining and developing the new recreation complex.
“Our first goal is to get the users of the facility to participate in this fundraiser,” says Desaulniers. “Of course, we understand that not everyone is in a position to spend $100 on a ticket, but they may be able to team up with friends, co-workers, and relatives.”
Desaulniers explains the rec complex is an asset to the town and region in more ways than one. She says it is available for all types of winter and summer sports, festivals, trade shows, concerts, regional and provincial events, garage sales, meetings, family gatherings, staff parties, and virtually any other event.
“Having an asset helps to attract people to the region, it also increases the value of your home and business,” she says. “The numbers of participants in the sports and activities will increase and new programs will develop. Do yourself a favour and buy a ticket, if you haven’t already done so.”
SCORE chairman Kimber Mader explains there are some incredible prizes to be grabbed with the lottery.
“This year, we are again holding the lottery which features a grand prize of a Ford F150 crew-cab 4x4," says Mader. “We have 16 prizes to be won in this year’s lottery. Each prize is purchased by the committee, and all are valued at over $200.”
The first year the lottery was held, the committee managed to sell 600 tickets.
In the second lottery, they sold a whopping 1,000 tickets. This year, though, they are attempting to sell an additional 500 tickets with a total of 1,500 available for purchase.
There have been some prizes drawn, two in Jan. of Lottery Loot Draws worth $500 each. In March, the committee drew the names listed above as winners of four prizes.
The final draws are made on April 25, for a Robo Vac $299, wicker patio lounge set $849, three Petro-Can gift cards valued at $500, a laptop computer $1,598, Sony LCD HDTV ready TV $1,900, Westjet gift certificate $2,000, accessorized ClubCar $9,500, and the Ford truck valued at $41,789.
