Girouxville’s after school junior curling program wrapped up on March 25.
Organizer Doreen Dumont says the kids were very successful this year.
“This year, we had 30 junior curlers ranging from ages nine to 18,” she says. “This year’s program began in January with instructional sessions followed by 11 weeks of round robin play.”
The instructors this year were Darcy Boisvert and Jacob Hodgson with the advanced students, Hannah Hodgson and Darren Anctil with the intermediate students, and Chantal Dumont and Britny Daubert with the beginners.
“Instructors focussed on introducing and familiarizing students with the basics of the game,” says Dumont.
“The instructors also covered everything from sweeping and throwing techniques to curling etiquette and sportsmanship at all levels of play.”
After learning the round robin portion of the program, the children were given the opportunity to play in a game environment to improve their skills.
“The importance of curling etiquette is always stressed and having fun in our junior program is the main goal.”
