Town of Falher held its regular meeting on April 20, where council decided to proceed with plans to upgrade the Falher Regional Recreation Centre fitness gym.
Town administrator Gerard Nicolet explains the centre has been an ongoing project for the town, and now one more step will be taken to increase the ability to use the facility throughout the year.
“Town will be proceeding with obtaining engineering plans and specifications for proposed improvements on the second floor of the arena front building,” says Nicolet. “Work is proposed to be done in two phases over the course of the next year.”
Phase one will entail modification of the current washrooms in Guns ‘N Buns Fitness Centre. The improvements will see the inclusion of showers, handicapped toilets and new counter tops.
The next step of phase one will be to install an elevator or chair lift depending on the cost and feasibility of the addition.
“Phase two of the renovations will include the development of a multi-purpose room in the fitness gym,” says Nicolet.
Plans include removing the kitchen, adjacent storage room and janitor’s closet. This room will be used to construct a new meeting room where courses, meetings and different fitness classes can be held.
Phase two will also include the deletion of the bar and office on the south wall of the second floor of the arena front. The space gained will be used to increase the room available for the fitness gym area.
“Town of Falher council has given the approval to proceed with plans,” he says.
2009 Municipal Sponsorship Program
Town council identified some major potential projects they may be starting or funding in the upcoming year.
Some of these potential projects include new arena flooring. This flooring would be used to cover the concrete when the ice surface is out, for use during the summer.
They are also looking at helping Girouxville’s project of building a bowling alley in their community.
One of the bigger projects being looked at is an Emergency Power Switching Program for emergency reception centres. This would be used in big incidences by switching incoming power supply off and using a generator connector system.
The program would be used at Jean Cote Community Hall, Guy Community Hall, McLennan Church basement, Legion Hall, Ecole Providence, Club Alouette, Ecole Heritage, Club Etoile, Girouxville Community Hall, Girouxville Church basement, Guy-Donnelly Sportex, and G.P. Vanier.
