A sunny, warm afternoon embraced the Whitemud quad rally as over 600 participants battled through 40 km of rough terrain.
The 6th annual Whitemud quad rally drew in over 400 machines in support of the Falher Regional Recreation Complex.
Falher Recreation Development Committee board member Rita Loiseau explains the rally was more successful this year than last.
“We sold 1,119 hands and made over $15,900 for the complex,” says Loiseau. “Over 660 participants came out on April 25 to have fun and support the rally.”
Bikers came from all over the Peace Country. Registered participants were from communities outside of the Smoky River Region included; Vegreville, Red Deer, Whitecourt, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Fox Creek, Grande Prairie, Drayton Valley, Manning and Chetwynd, BC.
A total of $20,507.25 was raised at the 2009 quad rally on April 25. Some of these funds were used to pay for the prize money, food expenses and other expenses accrued from the rally.
From the 1,119 poker hands sold at the rally, three winners received prizes.
First place, with a four-of-a-kind, was Dominique Maure of High Prairie who received $1,000.
Second place was won by Chad Lapensee from Falher, who received $500 for a full house.
Also with a full house hand was Leroy Verstrate of Falher, who walked away with a cool $300.
“We had approximately 660 participants on Saturday,” says Loiseau. “Out of those participants we had around 400 machines on the trails.”
The committee would like to thank RedLine Powercraft Limited owner Tyler Hoff of Wembley, who donated four rims and tires to the society. His contribution garnished about $4,567 included with t-shirt sales and concession.
This year’s sales were up substantially from last year, when cold weather may have deterred bikers to go to the rally.
Last year, the rally raised $10,700 in hand sales and another $3,020 in concessions, t-shirt sales and 50/50 ticket sales.
Thanks go out from the development society to all the volunteers who made this event possible. Loiseau says everyone who volunteered truly helped to make the quad rally an exceptional experience for everyone involved.
Any suggestions for improvements to the quad rally can be passed on to Lorraine Desaulniers at 780-837-2707 or Kimber Mader at 780-837-8777.
Final raffle draws for the Falher Recreation Development Society raffle has been extended to Aug. 4.
Normally draws would have been made at the Whitemud quad rally, but due to poor sales of the tickets, the committee requested an extension.
The final draw of the lottery is a Ford F-150 valued at $41,789.
