Up Front - Do you want to run someone over?

I don’t know how many times I’ve preached this to readers, slow down as you’re travelling through town!
I am disgusted with the speed motorists believe they should have to drive throughout our local communities. Although not just a regional problem, I think our residents are smarter than they’re proving as they drive through our communities.
Many times each day, as I get ready to go do an interview, or am outside enjoying the beautiful spring weather, I see motorists driving well over the designated 50 km speed limit in town.
What makes you think that you are invincible? You’re stupidity as you drive down the road will get you into trouble. Either a police officer will catch you driving insanely, or you are going to end up running over a child or an adult!
Just because the roads are in prime condition, does not give you the right to speed in town.
I am shocked at the number of people, who in Falher, hit the intersection by the Fields store and think out of town speed limits apply.
The speed limit designated is there for a reason. There are many people walking, biking or driving the lengths of Main Street. The speed limit should be followed at all times, especially until you hit the highway south of town. In fact, when driving through town, you should be driving slower than the 50 km speed limit.
Is it your goal to hurt someone? The way some individuals drive in Falher, Donnelly, McLennan, Girouxville and all the other local communities makes me believe that yes, they do.
I can’t believe the gall some people have. There are young children walking around our communities, that may have not been taught to look both ways. Even more so, these children are short and will not see a crazy motorist cruising at unthinkable speeds down our town’s roads.
There is no need to speed. All you are doing is making our communities less safe to walk in.
One of the McLennan RCMP constables was telling me a story about a fast motorist in McLennan.
He explained he was sitting in his office when he heard tires squeal and a wicked scream from outside.
When he looked, there was a vehicle who had been driving on Highway 2 into town, neglecting to slow down, and narrowly missing hitting a young child. Shockingly, the individual did not even stop when prompted. The police officer had to follow the individual with a cop car, stopping him closer to the west end of the community.
If you think it makes you look cool driving down our streets like a maniac, you’ve got another thing coming. You look like a fool.
For all the people who feel they need to drive like a moron through the communities, maybe you should step back and take a look at what your life will look like if you kill someone.
Firstly, you will always remember the face of the individual you hurt or killed. Your grief will increase as each year passes, as you remember the mistake you made when you were younger.
Secondly, your insurance will skyrocket, if you are ever covered by another company for the duration of your life.
Thirdly, you will be ostracized by the community. Which, maybe you don’t care about, seeing as you are not showing any concern for others at present.
Evaluate the stupidity of you driving down the street like a speed demon.
I hope the police catch you, and I hope you get a monstrous ticket. Maybe then you’ll learn your lesson before you kill someone.
