Falher Honey Festival buzzing back on June 19 and 20

Falher Honey Festival will be back on June 19 and 20, and the BEEsy BEE coordinators are excited about the changes being made this year.
The two organizers, who prefer to be called the BEEsy BEE coordinators, say many old favourites will be brought back to this year’s festival.
“The kick off to honey fest will be the Big BEEsiness Race,” says one of the coordinators. “All businesses are invited to enter with teams of three.”
The race will be held on Friday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. The rules of the game are simple, no motor can be used in the “vehicle”. The vehicle can be anything on wheels, which the organizers say can be a wagon, cart, wheel barrow, or anything else on wheels without a motor.
One rider and two pushers or pullers must decorate their vehicle, as prizes will be given out for the winning team, best decorated team, and the best dressed team.
The race will feature an obstacle course format, and depending on the number of teams, the format of the heats will vary.
Also on deck, is an old-time favourite. The Busy BEE Parade will be held on Saturday, with registration beginning at 10 a.m. at the Chevaliers Centre.
“We are excited to have Roland Turcotte as our Parade Marshall,” exclaimed the organizers. “We want to make the parade longer. We’re requesting businesses, organizations, groups and individuals to enter a float.”
There will not be a bike parade this year, but organizers urge families to enter the parade with their children.
The parade will start at 11 a.m.
Also on Saturday, a supper will be held at the Town of Falher office parking lot, starting at 6 p.m.
“Last year, we held a barbeque rib cookoff, but this year we’ve decided to hold a dessert cookoff instead,” says the organizer. “Participants must use honey in their dessert.”
The supper will feature a honey garlic rib supper catered by the Falher Restaurant.
Any interested participants in the dessert cook-off will have to pre-register to book a kitchen time slot.
Fee for supper is $12 per plate.
A market place will be held all day Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The market place will be held at the recreation complex. All small businesses are welcome to rent a table.
“Businesses of any kind can rent a table,” says an organizer. “We are thinking along the lines of businesses involving crafts, baking, Tupperware, toy salespeople, or anyone else interested in renting a booth.”
A midnight swim will be held on Friday night from 8 p.m. to midnight.
This is a free swim with a BEE theme.
“We are decorating the pool area, giving out prizes, holding games, and even looking at changing the colour of the pool water,” says an organizer. “We are looking for sponsors for the swim.”
An adult BEESball tournament will also be featured this year throughout the weekend.

Children’s games will be available for youth on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
It will include an extreme bungie, giant Operation game, big boxing, sumo wrestling, and theme bounces, including; Monster Truck Bounce, Pirate Bounce and Slide Combo, and Princess Bounce and Slide Combo.
More information is still to come on children’s games.
The Buzzing BEEr gardens will be held on both Friday and Saturday night. Doors will open on Friday at 5 p.m. and will close at 2 a.m.
Friday will feature a deejay called Lasting Impressions DJ Service operated by Cheryl Howell from High Prairie. She will begin her set at 7 p.m.
Saturday night will feature the Rocky Top Band, a four piece band from the Smoky River Region.
They will begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday. Beer garden entry fee is $5 after 7 p.m.
