Guns N’ Buns Fitness Centre will be holding their second annual run and walk on June 14.
The run is part of a fundraiser for the fitness centre located upstairs at the Falher Recreation Complex.
Fitness centre chair Christine Aubin says she hopes people will pre-register for the run.
“Many people asked us to move the run from Honey Festival weekend to a different weekend,” says Aubin. “We hope to have a similar, or even better turnout, than last year.
Last summer 55 runners participated in the run/walk.
Aubin explains that the day includes a babysitting service for parents who want to participate in the run. The service is provided for runners with children between the ages of three and 10.
Registration on race day will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the Falher Regional Recreational Complex. The run will begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine.
“This run is to promote healthy lifestyles,” says Aubin. “All proceeds will go towards the fitness centre, so the participants will be able to use the facility with upgrades and new equipment.”
Early bird specials were available before May 30 at a fee of $30 per person or $15 per youth.
The fitness club will be accepting registrations until race day. The fees are currently $40 per person, $20 for a youth, or $90 for a family.
Aubin says that last year half of the runners were gym members while the others were just out for a good time.
“All the runners completed the run within two hours,” says Aubin. “We started at 10 a.m. and the runners chose between a 5 km and 10 km route.”
Lunch will be provided at the recreation centre for $10 per adult or $5 for kids.
Aubin says that the fitness centre council expects to continue to hold the event every year.
Money from the run will go to the fitness centre to upgrade and maintain equipment.
“This year we are hoping to have showers installed in the bathrooms in the fitness centre,” she explains. “We would like to make sure that there is a little bit in the gym for everybody.”
Aubin explains that the event runs very smoothly thanks to volunteers from the community.
“Unfortunately, if there is a lack of interest, we may have to cancel the race,” says Aubin. “Come out, walk or run, and just have a good time.”
The run will be from the Falher Regional Recreation Complex and can be run or walked in either 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km increments.
“It is a really good family event,” says Aubin. “You can bring out your children, parents, grandparents, or other family members and have a great experience.”
