Smoky River Mud Bogs this weekend

Get ready for a rippin’ roarin’ great time this weekend as the Smoky River Mud Bogs return to centre stage on Aug. 1 and 2.
The annual event, which draws in hundreds of participants and spectators each summer, will be held at the Smoky River Fair Grounds located west of the Village of Donnelly next to G.P. Vanier School.
This year the event is being organized by Leo Dumont, Frank Cote, and Dale Brulotte.
Mud bogs organizer Leo Dumont says this year’s events should be more exciting than in years past.
“There will be bigger pits this summer,” says Dumont. “The pits will also be wetter than last year, making the mud bogs more competitive.”
The two pits will house four classes of competition.
The classes include 250 stock of up to 35 inch dot tires, 450 modified with up to 35 inch dot and ag tires, 500 super up to 39 or 40 inch dot tires, and 750 open with up to 500 horse, dot, ag tires.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug 1 and run until 11 a.m.
Start time is at noon.
Entry fees for the event will be $50 for all classes per entry into pit. There will be a limit this year set of two runs per class.
The entry fee pays for one run per truck per day.
Prize payouts for each class include 50 per cent payout for first place, 30 per cent payout for second place and a 20 per cent payout for third place. Each winner will also receive a trophy.
Camping will also be available near the mud bog area for $10 per night.
