Attention all seniors!

If you are looking for a relaxing event to take part in this summer, look no farther than the Seniors Picnic Day at Winagami.

Smoky River Family and Community Support Services has held multiple picnics at Winagami, which event planner Jean Moore says has been very successful this summer.

“Everybody has such a great time at Winagami,” says Moore. “There are many events seniors can participate in, and they have a great time socializing in a relaxing environment.”

Moore explains a chartered bus is hired to drive the seniors from Club Etoille in Girouxville, the manoir or Villa Beausejour in Falher, Club des Pionniers in Donnelly and the Golden Age Club in McLennan.

The entire cost of the event is $10, which includes the chartered bus ride and lunch.

“We usually have a barbeque style lunch along with fruit and beverages,” say Moore. “It is just a really fun event for everyone involved. The seniors have fun, I have fun, and everyone else wo helps out has fun.”

The picnics will be held twice next month, once on Aug. 7 and once on Aug. 17.

Moore explains there is a man at Winagami who kindly offers the seniors a boat ride for free each time they’re out at the lake. She says last picnic nine seniors had the opportunity to take a tour of the lake on the boat.

“There is so much for everybody to do out at Winagami,” says Moore. “Most of the time we have people volunteer to go on nature walks. If interested, the people participating in the event can also go fishing.”

Moore says it is a nice addition to FCSS events.

“One lady told me she hadn’t been to the lake in 30 years.”

If you are interested in booking a seat on the chartered bus, please phone the FCSS office at 780-837-2220.

Although the end to the picnics is approaching, Moore says seniors should prepare for the Seniors’ Fair in September.
