Town of Falher may display town name on grain elevator

Town of Falher has been offered a great piece of history by the Berube family.
The landmark grain elevator located in Falher was purchased by brothers Andre, Guy, Mark, and Jacque Berube six years ago after renting it for four years.
They are having new metal siding installed on the elevator.
“It needs either a paint job or siding. Siding is long-term, while paint lasts just seven to 10 years, and you need to replace the boards. This way you don’t need to replace any boards, you just put the siding on top,” said Andre Berube in an interview with the Express a few weeks ago.
The Berube brothers offered an option for the Town of Falher to put the town’s name at the top of the building once all siding is complete.
Mayor Margaret Tardif explains the town is currently seeing how much the sign will cost.
“It was very nice for the Berube’s to offer this chance to the town,” says Tardif. “If we do put the name on the top, we would like Falher to be seen from the highway.”
Tardif explains the sign will be put on the elevator if costs fit into the town’s budget.
The Berube’s explain the Falher elevator is also important to maintain because it’s one of the few elevators left in the West.
“And it’s an operating elevator, not just a museum,” Berube points out.
The Berube brothers don’t run a business out of the elevator, but use the storage for farm use.
“We plan on keeping it for a long, long time. It’s just something we hope to keep for the town,” Berube says.
