Up Front - Country music acts give back to Alberta family

A tragedy of great proportions just occurred at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose that has left Albertans shocked and children without a mother.
A massive storm collapse a part of the main stage at the Big Valley Jamboree taking the life of 35-year-old Donna Moore.
Out for a girls weekend away from her family, the tragic storm took the life of the woman.
When the storm hit, the concert had been postponed and organizers were in the process of clearing out the concert bowl.
Unfortunately, the storm came too soon for all fans to evacuate. The storm hit at around 6 p.m., with country artist Billy Currington finishing up his act.
According to an Edmonton Sun article, the stage collapsed within 10 seconds, leaving very little time for fans or artists to evacuate.
Victim Moore was described by family and friends as a friendly and outgoing person who was active in her community.
At the end of this tragedy, Moore’s two children have been left without their mother to battle through the trials and tribulations of life.
With greatest of intentions, many country acts are pooling together to set up a trust fund for Moore’s children.
Country singers Big & Rich, along with concert sponsors the Edmonton Oilers, will be donating $10 from each ticket sold to their Aug. 25 concert in Edmonton. Acts for the concert include Canadian Johnny Reid, Cowboy Troy, Dean Brody and the Mike Plume Band.
In a recent statement John Rich said, "We were immediately struck by the sadness of what happened at Big Valley. We've performed at Big Valley. We have stood on that stage with other artists and fans and the news really hit home with us. We immediately knew we needed to do something, so we invite all music fans to join us at Telus Field for a great evening and an opportunity to contribute to the fund in support of Donna Moore's children."
Tickets vary in price, starting at $39 and costing up to $50 plus service charges at Ticketmaster.
In addition to performing at this concert, Johnny Reid has already contributed $10,000 to the Donna Moore Memorial Trust Fund, set up for Moore’s 10 and 16 year old sons.
This type of story is heart-warming in my opinion. It shows how much musical artists care about their fans, and how although they have become superstars, they still have the same emotion and consideration as before they found fame.
Congratulations to all the artists who will enable Moore’s sons to carry through their education years with little to worry about. They will already have the pressure of losing their mother hanging over their heads, the compassion shown by these artists will remain in these boys’ hearts for the remainder of their life.
So, if you haven’t already done so, buy tickets to the Big & Rich concert at Commonwealth Stadium on Aug. 25. If you like country music this is the perfect opportunity to see a great concert and to contribute to a great cause.
It is refreshing to see something so heartfelt coming out of a disaster.
