Up Front - Drugs take addict to the epitome of low
Emily Plihal
for Smoky River Express
I had a letter to the editor sent to me a few months ago from a registered marijuana user. He was up in arms over an article written about the DARE program at Ecole Routhier.
This man proclaimed by running programs like DARE in schools, we are indoctrinating our children to think drugs are bad. Um, last time I checked... drugs are bad for you. I don’t care if you’re putting alcohol or drugs into your system, you are killing brain cells and putting stress on all your organs.
Like everything else though, the proof is in the punch. The man who wrote the letter told me there was nothing wrong with getting high (he didn’t specify any drugs).
Nothing wrong with doing drugs? Drugs impair your judgement just like alcohol.
You want proof? Recently a man in Edmonton was tried for killing his pregnant friend while high on crystal meth.
Why did he kill her? This drugged up loser said he believed the unborn child was his, but not by natural conception. He believed the fetus was implanted in her by the government.
Jared Baker, the man who shot his friend, was trying to use his self proclaimed drug-induced psychosis as his argument for reasoning behind shooting the woman.
Who chose to do the drug? In the Edmonton Journal, the story describes this man as a crystal meth addict. Meaning he started taking the drug and was a regular user.
To the man from Ontario who wrote me the “drugs are good” letter, I see that now while reading an article about a man who thought his friend was impregnated with his child by the government. Woohoo... sounds a little bonkers to me.
Now the question is, should his drug addiction act as a way to get him off from being charged in this situation? I hope to heck not.
If you are willing to do the drugs, you know your judgement will be tainted, you know you will not be in total control of your body. In my not so unbiased opinion, the book should be thrown at him.
If a person was drunk and killed somebody they would not be given any breaks. Congratulations, you were drug when you killed that man, now go to jail.
I definitely think Jared Baker should be in jail, and not for a pathetic couple year sentence.
I am tired of murderers in Alberta getting away with only a couple year sentence.
If you kill someone in cold blood, you should not see daylight for a minimum of 20 years.
Baker may be a heck of a nice guy, but he chose to take a drug that is known for absolutely taking all rationale away.
I’m sorry Baker, but it’s time for you to sit behind bars. Think about your friend who you brutally killed, and think about that baby’s life you took.
Two lives in exchange for 20 years of your life, doesn’t quite sound like enough huh?
Saying goodbye to Brooks and Dunn
All right, so a couple weeks ago I ranted and raved about how much I love the country duo Brooks and Dunn.
Well, for all of you who hate country and more specifically Brooks and Dunn, rest assured you will only have to hear their music until the end of next year.
Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks have decided to part ways after the completion of their greatest hits tour next year.
I think 2010 will be a very sad year. Anybody want to become a Brooks and Dunn groupie with me and travel around to each concert in 2010?
