New coaches will be training possible future figure skating Olympians this winter.
Twilight Figure Skating Club will be welcoming five new coaches to their roster in the 2009/2010 skating season.
Club vice president Joyce Doran says the five coaches bring a lot of experience that will be an asset to coaching our youth the ins and outs of figure skating.
Diana Lazoruk will be joining the club this winter.
“Diane has been coaching in the Peace River Region for six years and has taught programs for Preschool Canskate to Senior Starskate,” says Doran.
She is NCCP Level I certified and is working on completing her Level II.
“This is Diana’s second year with the club and the skaters are thrilled to have her back,” says Doran. “Diana has coached skaters in both the Alberta Winter Games and Arctic Winter Games in 2008 and plans to do the same in 2010.”
The second coach joining the club is Michelle Pitre.
“Michelle has been a Canskate Coach with the Twilight Figure Skating Club for eight years,” says Doran. “She has her NCCP Level I certification. Having been on the ice since eight years of age, Michelle shares her love of skating with all of her students.”
Michelle will be coaching the Canskate children in levels 3 to 6.
“The Twilight Figure Skating Club would also like to express our gratitude to Michelle who has donated her coaching time in order to help keep the registration fees down,” says Doran.
Jacquie Bouchard will also be joining the group as a coach this year.
She has been a part of the club for eight years as a board member and as a coach.
“Jacquie is currently completing her NCPP level I certification and is anxious to get back to the ice where she will be coaching both the Preschool Canskate and Levels 1 and 2 of the Canskate program.”
Marion Lessard will be bringing her 25 years of coaching experience to the ice this skating season.
Marion has her NCCP Level I and Level II theory.
“Marion is quick to point out there have been a lot of changes since her days as a figure skater, but her experience as a coach in Calgary, Vegreville, Sherwood Park and McLennan is a tremendous asset to our skaters,” says Doran. “We are thrilled Marion has decided to lace up and join us for the upcoming season.”
The fifth coach on the roster this season is Garth Powers.
Garth has joined the group thanks to the word of Diana Lazoruk.
“Garth is based out of Grande Prairie where he coaches some of their most advanced skaters,” says Doran. “Having gotten to know some of our skaters last season, he has agreed to come out to Donnelly on weekends to help Diana.”
Garth has coached skaters both at National and International levels.
The club will be holding a registration and skate swap night on Sept. 15 at the Guy-Donnelly Sportex in Donnelly. The evening will run from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
All registrations paid on or before Sept. 15 are eligible for a $125 United Cycle Gift Card.
Organizers request skaters to bring along their old skates and dresses. This will be an opportunity for them to sell, buy or trade their used equipment.
