Water and sewer upgrades in Donnelly now complete

Donnelly’s water and sewer have both been upgraded to the latest standards.
Doug Schuler, project manager and an engineer with Focus Corporation, completed final inspections of the water pump station and the new sewage lift station on Sept. 17.
The former water treatment plant was renovated to become a pump station instead, now that Falher supplies treated water to Donnelly.
The new equipment in the pump station is now also up-to-date to today’s standards. It went online in July.
“Now what happens is water goes into the clear well, or underground reservoir, to be used for domestic supply and firefighting,” says Schuler.
Two new service pumps alternate to deliver the village’s water. A third pump is exclusively for fire.
“Everything is supposed to be automatic,” Schuler says.
Aegis Mechanical was the contractor that completed the work, while Red Line Electric handled the electrical installation.
The Smoky River Water Commission now administers Donnelly’s water after the village sold them the pump station for a dollar.
Donnelly also has a new sewage lift system. The old sewage lift station had been built in the late 50’s. The village needed a bigger building, and also needed to bring the lift station up to current code.
Work on the new lift station began Sept. 3, 2008. The work for the new lift station was also done by Aegis Mechanical, while Nor-Tech Systems completed the electrical.
“The final inspection was March 18, but we had a list of deficient items due to the season,” says Schuler. “We couldn’t do anything with the landscaping for example until the ground thawed.”
The final work has now been done and is operational.
The completed lift station project came in at well over $500,000.
Donnelly CAO Lilliane Bessette toured the pump station and lift station while final inspections were completed, along with the contractors who’d been involved with the projects.
