Up Front - Thanks Claire and Jay for a great, relaxing wedding

I’ll be the first to admit that I absolutely hate attending weddings. Yes I’m happy my friend or family member has found someone to spend the rest of their life with, but generally speaking weddings make me nauseous.
However; two weekends ago I attended a friend’s wedding that may have change my opinion a little on love and the whole white dress, the cake and the whole darned thing.
Firstly, you can tell how much you care about someone when you drive nearly 12 hours to get to their wedding. A friend and I took off after work on Thursday to try to get to (just before) Kamloops by Friday evening.
We stopped in Jasper at the Sawridge Hotel overnight and kept trucking to the resort the next morning.
I definitely have to thank my girlfriend for picking such a lovely location to get married. Doubling as my first vacation in four years, and her wedding, Sun Peaks Resort was a destination I would have never known about without them getting married there.
Situated high in the mountains, Sun Peaks is a location chosen by avid skiers in the winter. In the summer though, its European feel and quaintness makes you feel at home as soon as you approach it.
The resort is a small conglomerate of hotels, stores, restaurants and bars. There is a golf course, the opportunity to go horse back riding and many walking trails to enjoy.
First impression was good, and eased my stress of being at a wedding.
As soon as I entered the hotel I was greeted by the bride who smiled a great big smile and thanked me for driving all that way. If you know Claire, you know she comes from a wonderful family and has been raised to be a compassionate, loving individual.
Tension broke a bit more. Her groom, Jay, was right behind her with his daughter.
Their reactions to having their friends to celebrate their marriage was enough to make the trip and wedding worthwhile.
The next morning, Claire quickly made me change my mind about weddings. Not my own, necessarily, but those of friends.
I woke up early to take pictures of Claire getting her hair done at the beauty parlour. I couldn’t believe how relaxed she was, despite the approaching wedding.
She choked down an energy drink (apparently you don’t sleep well the night before your wedding) and eagerly watched the hairdresser make her hair stunning.
My beautiful friend turned out to be one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen. Her dress stitched with her signature colour (pink) suited her perfectly.
I had the pleasure of taking Claire and Jay’s wedding photos, and I must say the two of them were very easy to photograph. They were a beautiful groom and bride.
What I’ve learned from this wedding is that if you are marrying your one true love, everyone else sees that and the day is actually quite perfect.
I’ve also learned a new respect for wedding photographers. I completely understand why people say shooting weddings is the hardest type of pictures to take. Holy stress!
The most important thing I learned is weddings aren’t as bad as I thought.
Congratulations Claire and Jay! I wish you every happiness in this world. Oh yeah, maybe five or six babies too? Cheers to the bride and groom!
