Tickets are now available for the Jean Côté 75th anniversary Casino Night.
Jean Côté 75th anniversary committee is planning a fundraiser on Nov. 28 to raise funds for the 75th anniversary party next summer.
A Casino Night will be held from the Jean Côté Community Centre on on Saturday night.
“We will be making the centre look similar to a Las Vegas casino,” says committee president Real Sasseville. “We will have a total of 10 tables ready to be played on.”
Sasseville says there will be a variety of games played on Nov. 28 including Roulette, Texas Hold ‘Em, and Blackjack.
The night is a fundraiser for the 75th anniversary of Jean Côté being held in July 2010.
“We have 200 tickets available for the fundraiser evening,” says Sasseville. “All tickets have to be purchased in advance.”
Doors for the event will open at 7:30 p.m., with games beginning at 8 p.m.
Admission is $25 per person.
“It is not only a casino night,” says Sasseville. “We will also be holding karaoke that night too.”
The evening will feature finger food platters available for purchase.
There will also be a shooter and martini bar.
“We have some special guest entertainers coming to sing to the crowd,” says Sasseville. “The LAUF Troupe will also be serving the crowd their snacks and drinks.”
The LAUF Troupe is the local comedy group who puts on a murder mystery play each year.
Sasseville requests the presence of local people to make not only the casino night, but the 75th anniversary celebration, successful.
Committee organizers are busy planning a first-class party to celebrate the rich history of the Jean Côté community.
Entertainment and fun will be rich in the community for the next year as excitement increases anticipating the 75th anniversary celebration.

75th Anniversary
Jean Côté community members have been busy planning a 75th anniversary party for next summer, which organizers hope to draw in a multitude of visitors to the area.
“We will be holding the event during the Canada Day long weekend next summer,” says Jean Côté committee president Real Sasseville. “The party will be starting on Thursday and will finish on Sunday.”
The event will be held from the Jean Côté Community Centre on Main Street in Jean Côté.
“We put together a 75th anniversary committee about a year ago,” says Sasseville. “We have a lot of big plans to make this a rockin’ party. We hope the event will bring back former residents and new people to the area.”
Sasseville explains Jean Côté’s history is rich in music and gatherings between community members to enjoy the music, thus the theme of the event will be “Music”.
He says they hope to have namesake Jean Côté’s son speak at the anniversary party in 2010, but have not yet heard a response.
“We have a lot of different groups and events planned for the entertainment portion of the party,” says Sasseville. “The whole town will be decorated and events will be scattered around town.”
A parade will be held on Saturday at 11am in Jean Côté. Sasseville asks everyone to pre-register with a float by Saturday. For all parade information or to book a spot, call Greg Griffin at 780-323-3102 or Gerry Dubois at 780-323-4557.
Registration is to take place on Friday or previous to the date.
“We are planning to have a show and shine event on Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.,” says Sasseville. “It will be organized by Paul Bruneau.”
Sasseville explains the focus will be on local entertainment and local bands. He says one band has been booked for the weekend.
Gilbert Parent has been hired on to provide entertainment for the kids. Sasseville says he has a number of different tricks and jokes to keep children and their parents entertained.
A teen dance will be held on Friday and Saturday night at the skating rink on the west end of Jean Côté.
“G.P. Vanier high school students will be taking care of the two food booths in town,” says Sasseville. “We will also have 24 hour guards available around town for those parking in town for the entire weekend.”
The committee will be putting up a 90’ by 90’ tent where a stage will be also set up.
Sasseville explains a number of events are still being planned, but already a number of events are sure to be winners with potential visitors and event-goers.
“Our main meal will be catered on Saturday night with supper being held at the community centre,” says Sasseville. “It will be $15 per plate, and is first come, first serve.”
Each individual will be registered upon entrance to the celebration. Name tags will be provided.
Sasseville explains there will be RV parking available throughout the weekend.
“We will be holding a silent auction throughout the weekend and we are accepting donations right up to the celebration,” says Sasseville. “Closing of bets will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday and announcements of the winners will be made at 8p.m.”
