Sandy Primeau and her late husband Richard spoke of buying the trailer next to theirs if it ever came up for sale, turning it into a location every individual in the region could use.

When the former owner decided to move to a new location, Sandy saw an opportunity to purchase a dream she and her husband once shared.

After long deliberation about what to turn the house (located on 420–1st street SW) into, Sandy explains she evaluated what was needed in the community and decided to renovate the property into a bed and breakfast.

“When I bought this place I wasn’t sure what to do with it,” says Sandy. “After a while a bed and breakfast naturally came to mind. People want an alternative to staying in a hotel environment when they visit our area.”

Sandy’s efforts began in April, when she started to renovate the home with the help of A to Z Carpentry. The renovations were just completed at the beginning of Nov.

“The house was essentially gutted,” says Primeau. “There are now just two rooms instead of three, and all aspect of the house have been renovated. I tried to keep part of the integrity of the building by keeping details from the previous owner’s home.”

The bed and breakfast includes two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and one with a double) along with a futon in the living room.

Each room has been designed for comfort, with Egyptian cotton sheets, homemade quilts, and delicate colour patterns to make your stay relaxing.

Sandy says she was focussing on local interests when designing the home. She had a stained glass divider put up in the kitchen, designed by local artist Therese Lambert.

The stained glass encompasses two major industries in the area, in apiculture and agriculture.

“I can see consultants, business people, and visitors to the region staying in the home,” says Sandy. “It will also be a great place for people who are visiting relatives in the region.”

Nightly fees include: for one night and one room $85 plus tax, for the entire building it will be $150 per night plus an additional $20 for each extra person.

The home features cable television in each room, high speed Internet and a DVD player in the living room.

All household items are supplied, including pots and pans, appliances, small kitchen appliances, cutlery, and dishes.

“We ensured the home was completely wheelchair accessible,” says Sandy. “I also tried to primarily shop locally when buying items for the home.”

Sandy explains she tried to focus on purchasing ecologically friendly items.

“I wanted to recognize the importance of conservation and saving,” says Sandy.

Sandy will be holding the official opening of her bed and breakfast on Dec. 3. She says everyone is welcome for tea, coffee and snacks, and to take a look at the renovations that have been done to the home.

Sandy will be welcoming her first guests this weekend, and says she prefers to have adults stay in the bed and breakfast.

If you would like to have a get-away in a home-like environment, have family members who need a place to stay, or would like additional information, please phone Sandy at 780-837-2786.
