Falher and Area Chamber of Commerce in need of new members

Falher and Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for new members immediately.

Three of the current member will be moving on to other endeavours, and to keep the chamber as a valuable part of our community new members have to be found now.

Chamber of Commerce member Val Viens explains three members will be leaving as of January 1.

“Our president Brad Lussier has been transferred for work out of the area and we need to find someone to fill his shoes,” says Viens. “We will also be losing Paula Guindon and Pierette Charest to other engagements. We are hoping to find three new members interested in participating in our chamber.”

Viens explains members in the past had to be business owners. However; now the chamber has begun to accept individuals who are representatives of the business owners.

“We just want to have individuals who are interested in helping to maintain the events we put on each year,” says Viens. “Being a chamber member is very rewarding.”

Chamber members are concerned with the future of the board. Many directors have stepped down this year, and as a result they are now short three board members including the president.

“Overall there is not a very active membership contribution,” says Viens. “We are hoping to get an increased interest in the chamber from business owners who are currently members.”

Viens explains the council may have to look at alternatives to keep the chamber active.

“We are planning on visiting all the regional chambers to consider regionalising our efforts,” says Viens. “If we don’t find the necessary board members, we have no option but to look at regionalising.”

If you are interested in participating on the chamber of commerce call 780-837-2880 and leave a message or email at facc2880@telus.net. You can also contact Val Viens at 780-837-8311.

Moonlight Madness and Santa Days

Viens says many special thank you’s are required to participants and individuals who dated to this year’s Moonlight Madness and Santa Days.

She says Galleon, Carol and Darcy Fischer, Ross Ag (Hay ride), Karves Construction, and CREF have to be thanked for their generous time and financial contributions to Santa Days.

“We had a very good turnout this year and we appreciate all the support we received,” says Viens. “I would also like to thank the chamber members who contributed a lot of their time. They made the event spectacular for the children and families who attended both events.”

Viens explains the Smoky River Minor Hockey must also be thanked.

“There was an Atoms tournament at the rec complex the same day as the Santa Days,” says Viens. “It made the environment very nice because we had teams from other areas who participated in Santa Days. It worked really well having those additional kids here that weekend.”

Viens says a special thank you to Karen Berube of Falher Hotel who leant blankets to the chamber for the hay rides, and Marcel Viens for letting the chamber use his wagon.

A special thank you also goes to the Falher Pirates who chose to donate their free time to the Pirates Skate held during Santa Days.

“The five guys had a game that night and still felt it was important to spend time with our kids,” says Viens. “Those children idolize the Pirates and were very excited to skate with them.”
