Local school division receives MELRA award

St. Isidore, December 3, 2009 - The Northwest Francophone Education Region No. 1 is proud to receive 9 mentions in the Minister’s Education Leadership Recognition Awards (MELRA) for the 2008-2009 school year. Receiving awards in both Improvement and Achievement categories, the NWFER distinguished itself by obtaining the awards in the most categories of all the School Boards of Zone 1.
The awards were presented by the Honourable Dave Hancock, Minister of Education to celebrate significant improvement and/or very high achievement of jurisdiction leadership teams which are comprised of boards and district administrators. Mr. Mario Paradis received the award on behalf of the Board on November 5.
The Northwest Francophone Education Region No. 1 was honoured for its Very High Achievement in the following categories:
1. Safe and caring
2. Education Quality 3. High School Completion Rate
4. Diploma Exam Participation Rate
5. Work Preparation for students
6. Citizenship preparation for students
7. Parental Involvement
8. School Improvement
Significant improvement was awarded in the following category:

The Minister’s Educational Leadership Recognition Award (MELRA) was created by Alberta Education in collaboration with key education stakeholder representatives to formally recognize and celebrate improvement and/or high achievement of jurisdiction leadership teams which are comprised of boards and jurisdiction administrators. It is based on the Accountability Pillar which was designed by stakeholders as a means of collecting objective criteria and data results from a broad set of measures related to school quality.
As such, the Accountability Pillar provides valuable information with regard to the annual performance of each publicly funded school jurisdiction in the province.
