Sports: Eagles soaring high as they defeat the Valleyview Jets Dec. 5

The Eagles are determined to be at the top of the East throughout the season, giving them great standings heading into the NPHL playoffs.
The division leading Lakeland Eagles travelled to Valleyview on Dec. 5 to prove why they are standing strong above the other teams in the East.
It looked like Lakeland may have a tough time defeating the bottom Eastern bottom feeding Jets, as they blasted from the gates with blood on their minds.
Valleyview score four consecutive goals in the first 12 minutes of the first period, not allowing Lakeland a breath of fresh air.
Jets goals were scored by Mackenzie Caron (three goals in under 11 minutes), and Ryan Reeves. Assists were awarded to Reeves(2), Ken Breland, Frazier Caron (3), and Don Terpsma.
Eagles found flight at 12:17 with a goal from all-star forward Tyler Shantz, who was assisted by Jay Anderson and Travis Chalifoux.
Allan Anderson Jr. made the game interesting with a goal at 15:09 unassisted.
Shantz continued to shine, picking up his second goal of the game at 16:31, assisted by Jay Anderson.
Valleyview would not back down, scoring with two minutes left in the first on the power play with a goal by Frazier Caron, assisted by Ken Breland.
Lakeland buckled down in the first intermission, battling back from a 5–3 deficit.
James Tallman scored first at 2:21, assisted by Darcy McKenzie. Ray Cunningham made it even at 2:52 with an even-strength marker, assisted by Shane Smith.
Valleyview scored two next, with goals by Frazier Caron(2) and Mackenzie Caron (4). Assists were awarded to MacKenzie Caron, Terpsma, and Frazier Caron.
Eagles came flying back with three consecutive at 12 minutes, 14:11, and 15:14, with goals by Jay Anderson, and two by Shantz (4). Two assists were marked by Chalifoux.
Valleyview found a little peace, tying up the game again at 8–8. After taking a quick lead in the first, the Jets defence was shaken by the tenacity of the Eagles.
Jets goal was scored with 28 seconds left of the second, with a goal by Ryan Reeves, assisted by Frazier Caron and MacKenzie Caron.
The Jets ran out of juice in the third, as their offense and defence was no match for the Lakeland Eagles.
The Eagles shot out of the gates with four goals in the third period. Goals were scored by Darwin Payou, Dale Payou, and two by Jay Anderson (3). Assists were awarded to Chris Noskey, Shane Smith, Tallman, Anderson Jr., McKenzie, and Chris Gladue.
Final score in the game was 12 – 8 in favour of the Lakeland Eagles.
Shots on net were also in favour of the Eagles, out-shooting the Jets 56 to 43.
Only 10 penalties were handed out throughout the game, with Lakeland capitalizing once on three opportunities, and the Jets scoring once on seven tries.
The Eagles, who continue to lead the East Division, will play again on Dec. 17 against the High Prairie Regals.
They will then play on Dec. 19 and will take a two week Christmas vacation, resuming their season on Jan. 2 in Fairview.
