Lakeland manhandles Hythe Mustang in a 6–3 victory

Hythe Mustangs visited the Lakeland Eagles’ pond on Dec. 19, hoping to break the Eagles’ winning streak.

Lakeland’s current 12–2-0 record leads the East Division with 24 points. Their closest divisional rival is the Falher Pirates who sit a comfortable eight points behind the Eagles.

The game was a true test for the Eagles, who were hoping to ensure a solid place at the top of the East headed into the second part of the season.

Lakeland opened the scoring even-strength at 2:57 with a goal by star forward Tyler Shantz, assisted by Asley Langdone and Allen Jr. Anderson.

Hythe answered back just five minutes later with a goal by Ryan Lizotte, assisted by Bob Balderston.

Shantz scored his second of the game, assisted by Travis Chalifoux at 10:41 on the power play.

The play was evenly matched in the second period, with each team capitalizing once on power play opportunities.

Lakeland’s goal opened the second period scoring summary at 2:40 on the power play by Jay Anderson, assisted by Craig Anderson.

Hythe made the game closer at 18:53 on the power play with a goal by Jay Christie, assited by Jamie Robinson and Brant Stilwell.

Despite having more shots on goal in the second, the Hythe Mustangs finished the period with a 3–2 deficit to dig out of.

Third period action was dominated by Lakeland, with goals scored by Chris Noskey, James Tallman, and Jay Anderson. Assists were awarded to Craig Anderson, Travis Chalifoux, and Darcy McKenzie.

Hythe’s lone third period goal came at 2:06 by Rob Takala, assisted by Rocky Collins.

Hythe managed to capitalize on one of eight power play opportunities, while the Eagles scored on three of nine chances. Final score of the game was 6–3, with Lakeland narrowly outshooting Hythe in a margin of 36–35.
