Each year EFD Ventures (also known as Imperial Oil Ltd.) donates a portion of proceeds to local charities and non-profit organizations throughout the communities it runs its business in.

This year, the Smoky River Fire Department was fortunate enough to receive a portion of the funds. The cheque, presented to deputy fire chief Gerry Lanctot and former deputy fire chief Denis Laflamme, was in the amount of $2,931.48 and will be used to purchase supplies and equipment needed at the local fire hall.

“We have made a total of three donations this year,” says Regional Manager Wayne Spacil. “West Smoky River Recreation Centre received the same donation as the fire department.”

Local agents for Imperial Oil submits applications on behalf of the local fundraisers in the communities that they feel best fit the Esso Farm Community Growth Fund. Imperial Oil then goes through the applications and selects successful applicants.

“There’s a cause we care about in the heart of your community,” says Spacil. “EFD Ventures and Esso understand the strength of a community built on support it gets from its members.”

He explains this is why the Esso Farm Community Growth Fund was initiated in 2004. Each time farm fuel is purchased between seeding and harvesting season, up to one penny per litre is donated to select community projects.

Some of the communities who have received these funds include Manning, Grimshaw, Donnelly, High Prairie, Worsley, and now Falher and Eaglesham.

“Through the Esso Farm Community Growth Fund we can all be proud of our part in contributing back to our communities in which we live,” says Spacil. “EFD Ventures is very proud of the total of $106,058 to date given back to the communities in which we serve.”
